Borewells with a diameter of 4.5 and 6 inches are commonly drilled for domestic usage. Although 4.5 inch borewells are the most common for domestic use, 6 inch borewells are drilled when a higher yield is needed for large apartments or houses, as well as for agricultural use. Prior to drilling the specified size, larger diameter bits are used to position the casing pipes up to the hard rock zone.
It’s always a good idea to keep a safe distance between a borewell and a septic tank because pollution is a possibility. If the situation calls for it, properly grout the borewell casing pipe with cement slurry before hard rock forming. Borewells used for drinking and septic systems should not be found in shallow aquifer areas.
PVC pipes are currently commonly used as casing pipes. Due to corrosion, GI/Mild steel casing tubing, which were previously used, are no longer recommended. PVC casing pipes installed in borewells must comply with the Bureau of Indian Standard IS 12818: 1992, which regulates the specification for thermoplastic PVC screen and casing pipes for borewells.
As a result, if the location of the site has sufficient ground water capacity, there is no particular season for drilling a borewell. Identifying a suitable site and drilling the borewell during the summer months, on the other hand, would result in the worst possible situation in the location at the time. As a result, some experts suggest that the perfect time to dig a new borewell is during the summer months.
